Andrew Bynum should’ve stayed after work Thursday night

EL SEGUNDO — Andrew Bynum plans on playing Sunday against Oklahoma City despite rolling his right ankle trying to defend Chicago’s Brad Miller on Thursday night.

Bynum was able to walk out of Staples Center without tremendous discomfort, so he didn’t stay after the game to get treatment on the ankle at the most critical time: right after getting hurt. So naturally the ankle was pretty sore when he woke up Friday morning, and he sat out practice Friday to get all sorts of treatment on it.

It should be a lesson to Bynum to be professional and get treatment ASAP if there’s any doubt about it.

He is young now and might get away with it, but you make a very valid point. Andrew needs to take a page out of Kobe’s book.

I think you are the ones who mentioned a couple days ago how Kobe was the last one left at Staples. Teammates left but Kobe stayed to get treatment on his groin and fulfilled his charitable obligations (which he takes seriously from what I have heard).

Kobe takes his charity obligations VERY seriously. Probably the most charitable especially with the Make A Wish Foundation. Bynum should have jumped on the treatment wagon for sure. He’ll know next time.

Read the same report that Bynum would be starting treatment in the morning instead of the night of the injury. Coupled with his dismissal of Kareem and his big contract, makes one wonder if he has the commitment and work ethic to realize his potential or if he’s yet another spoiled prima donna without humility.

Read the Kareem article again. It’s pretty much been said that Andrew needs game time experience to really grasp the things he’s learned. While cutting down with Kareem isn’t something I recommend, Bynum is still going to him for advice and Kareem doesn’t seem to mind it too much. I wouldn’t be surprised to see if later in the season or next season Bynum goes to him again. The kid needs to play. He can only learn and do so much at the Captains side. As far as the injury, he wasn’t feeling much pain from it and made a bad call on it. I’ve sprained my ankles playing basketball and if they felt fine later on, I just let that be that and went to it the next day. Other days I had to see a doc. He was feeling alright, didn’t think he needed it. I’m sure if he was feeling it he would have been at the trainer though. Andrew is fine, he’s still 22 (which people seem to constantly forget) and is still young and will learn as he goes along. Give the kid some time.
