LOS ANGELES — Here’s what Kobe Bryant had to say about passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and moving into second place behind only Jerry West on the Lakers’ all-time scoring chart:
“I grew up a Laker fan, so to be in this position, it’s pretty cool.”
At his current pace, Bryant (24,182) would pass West (25,192) this season, specifically on Jan. 26 at Washington.
Here’s the Lakers’ top 10 all-time scoring chart:
Which brings us to our poll …
with respect to all Laker greats, it used to be easy, Magic got the nod just over West. But now, you have to say Magic 1A and Kobe 1B!!!!
I’d have to say Jerry West was the all time great. Like Chick Hearn he was the Lakers. Lived it and slept it. Greatest is so general I had to take this beyond just scoring. Jerry played, coached, managed, scouted, drafted, traded, counseled, mentored, etc to help make what the Lakers are today. Nobody else comes close to this in regards to greatness for this organization. Greatness has no boundaries so Jerry I feel stands way above the rest. Magic could have been there but he cut his career short because of his HIV.
Magic changed the way basketball was played. He made it cool to pass and distribute the ball. He mesmerized an entire country and held LA in his huge palms. Not only did he perform at the highest level, but Showtime became synonymous with winning and Los Angeles. It’s all about the championship, being runner-up was being the first loser.
i voted for Magic but wilzuvsteel has some very good points. Can i change my vote to West?
I mean seriously, he gave us Paul Gasol for nothing. lol he’s helping the Lakers even when he isnt employed by them.
West wasn’t working for Memphis was Pau was traded to the Lakers. It was the owner and the GM looking to do a salary dump. It was just speculated that West had something to do with it from his prior work.
Where’s the list of WORST LAKER of all time??
Smushy where are you?…
Kwame misses you..
LOL
Naaa… that’s an insult to Kwame. As bad as Kwame was on offense, he was a solid defender at least. On the occasion he managed to contribute offensively as well. Almost got past Phoenix because of him. Smush couldn’t be counted on for anything.
