If LeBron is ready for some football …

In case you missed it, Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini said Cavaliers star LeBron James is welcome on the 1-8 NFL squad … any time.lebron_browns

James was an all-state wide receiver in Ohio as a high school junior, but has concentrated on basketball since.

Brady Quinn said he would love to have the reigning NBA MVP as a passing target.

Maybe the Browns would even throw downfield a couple times a game.

The San Diego Chargers’ Antonio Gates is just the latest example of a basketball player becoming an NFL force (Tony Gonzalez played both in college, too).

If Kobe Bryant had played football, I think he would’ve made a terrific wide receiver, or perhaps the tallest free safety ever.

With his love for soccer, Bryant would also make a great striker and also an excellent target man for corners and free kicks.

David Beckham would love it.

None of this will ever happen, realistically, but it’s fun food for thought.
