Forget all the talk about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar going to Memphis. The Lakers Hall of Famer is staying put.

But the question remains…what, as a special assistant coach, is he going to do?

Abdul-Jabbar began mentoring Andrew Bynum four years ago, teaching him post skills and footwork, and helping Bynum to become one of the brightest young centers in the NBA. But as far as Bynum is concern, the relationship has run its course and Abdul-Jabbar reportedly backed off.

Abdul-Jabbar told the L.A. Daily News last month that “there are things that have to do with basketball that he could learn but he’s getting on in years.”

The Lakers don’t have any other young players who need day-to-day guidance or help with their skyhook, but they probably all could learn a few tricks from the Hall of Famer.
