LOS ANGELES
Kobe Bryant was just being Kobe Bryant when he scored 41 points against Memphis on Friday. It wasn’t anything new. He’s scored 41 points two other times this season.

Still, his dominating play in light of the Lakers’ injury situtation was impressive. He took over in the post, where Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum normally roam but sat out because of injuries and did not count a 3-pointer in his game-high total.

In fact, he didn’t even attempt a long-range shot.

“For the most part, he wa the only one scoring,” Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay said. “He was hitting some tough shots. We played pretty good defense on himi and he hit tough shots. What more can you ask for?

“Kobe was Kobe tonight. What is that, like eight straight shots or something like that, he had? It’s tough. When he’s on like that, it’s tough for any team.”

Inspiring to watch his effort in early-season games. I wish more NBAers would put forth the effort all the time like Bryant. It’s one of the things that separates him from the pack.

Wasn’t he supposed to slow down at 31???

ESPN’s wishful thinking. They have an east coast bias, they don’t like Kobe because he’s on the West Coast with the Lakers and they absolutely love LeBron.

    • Niko says:

True, but the new ESPN Los Angeles gives us lots of love.

Love like a politician or a salesman who talks it all up and makes it look all gravy but really behind the scenes its something different? Sorry… I don’t place alot of weight on ESPN. Every now and then they have something of interest, but their Insider, I can get all those rumors and everything else from Yahoo and Fox Sports for Free.

        • Niko says:

You’re right about going to their website for insider info…huge waste of time and money. Even the guys on TNT, with the exception of Kenny Smith, are against the Lakers, but I prefer it that way.

        • J-Dizzle says:

TNT is also East Coast. Based in Atlanta owned by Time Warner, affiliated of course to Turner Broadcasting a subsidiary of Time Warner. I wouldn’t call Barkley against the Lakers though. He’s kinda 50/50 it really depends on his mood.
