Sasha Vujacic said no to olive oil and the Slovenian National team said no to him.
That’s the Twitter (140 characters or less) version of what happened to Vujacic’s position on the team.
The longer version — and Vujacic’s story — can be found on his website (Thanks to reader Deezy76 for the heads up) and it details how he began to feel sharp in his knees during intense practices on grass. When the team doctors seemed unresponsive to his pleas, Vucacic said he sought out his own treatment.
Team officials said he must have arrived in his home country with a previous injury and massaged his knee with olive oil. That caused Vujacic to lose confidence in the medical staff and again went to his own therapist.
Although he maintained constant contact with his coach about his treatment and conditioning, Vujacic said the coach “told me that my leg was not OK and that I was behind the team. He also told me I didn’t have a ‘bond’ with the team since I had spent time away from them for my treatment, and that he doesn’t want me on the team.”
Vujacic said that although he his heart is “sad and angry” is it “now time to get back to work in L.A. to help the Lakers win another NBA Championship Ring in 2010!!!!”
Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway?
