LOS ANGELES — Sasha Vujacic offered an implied “I told you so” to everyone who bought into the conservative estimate that he’d rest his injured left ankle for 10-14 days. He intends to rejoin Lakers practice Monday.
“Right now it feels great,” Vujacic said. “I just want to test it.”
Vujacic has an avulsion fracture in his left ankle and has missed almost all of the Lakers’ team workouts this preseason. He said his goal is to get back to play one or two exhibition games and be ready to reclaim his place as the Lakers’ backup shooting guard in the Oct. 28 season opener. The last two exhibition games are Thursday in Anaheim and Friday in Ontario.
As much as Vujacic gives the Lakers, they’re so deep that Phil Jackson has been doing some interesting things at shooting guard without Vujacic: Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza had good success taking some turns there Saturday night.
