Surgery date imminent

By the end of this week, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is expected to decide when he will have surgery to repair the ligament damage in his right pinky finger.

Bryant initially suffered the injury Feb. 5, in a game against the New Jersey Nets. However, instead of opting to have immediate surgery, Bryant he chose to play through the remainder of the season, the playoffs and NBA finals, and the recently completed Beijing Olympics.

Bryant had hoped to be recovered from his surgery for the start of training camp. However, the Lakers report to training camp Sept. 30 and it is highly probable that Bryant’s recuperation will take longer than the 3-4 week prognosis that previously had been reported.
