Shaquille O’Neal is putting his money – not a microphone – where his mouth is these days.
Instead of rappin’ about his favorite nemesis – Kobe Bryant – Shaq announced he and two development firms will fund a $90 million, 25-story condominium tower in Newark, N.J. on city-owned land near the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.
(Fortunately for the citizens of Newark, they don’t hold rap sessions at the Performing Arts Center.)
O’Neal will be the site’s designated redeveloper.
“I’ve always believed that no success is complete without giving back to the place you call home,” said O’Neal, who grew up in the city’s Central Ward.
Shouldn’t he be building bridges with some of his former teammates instead?
And since we brought up Shaq’s infamous ode-to-Kobe rap video, Miami rookie Michael Beasley called it “funny.”
“I mean, him and Kobe played together so I don’t know what they did on their free time … but it was a great rap (laughs). No, it wasn’t – because he was talking about Kobe, Kobe, don’t be mad at me. It was a good rap, I guess.”
Sure it was.
