Artest-to-L.A. rumors continue

July 14th, 2008, 7:30 am · Post a Comment · posted by JANIS CARR, OCREGISTER.COM

Lakers fans better get used to the idea of Ron Artest in purple and gold. Rumors of a trade are getting stronger, according to Mark Stein of ESPN.com.

Stein, reporting from the Summer League in Las Vegas where Artest showed up, said that in a series of emails from the unhappy Sacramento Kings forward that he is still mad about not opting out of his contract and hopes to be traded to “a team out there that can be more committed than Sacramento to me.”

Stein, like everyone else around the league, believes that to be the Lakers. Yet, according to Stein’s league sources, the Lakers might not be willing to part with Odom and his expiring contract in a trade.

That would undoubtedly send the Kings and Artest looking elsewhere.

Artest wrote in his email that he has not heard from the Maloof brothers – Kings owners – since the free agency period began. “That should have been a sign to me that my future in (Sacramento) is N/A or undermined.”
