Hours before the moratorium on free-agent signings ends – officially at midnight — it’s eerily quiet at the Lakers offices.
Nothing seemingly has changed regarding the status of Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf, both of whom apparently want more than the Lakers have offered. Vujacic’s qualifying offer was for about $2.6 million, and Turiaf’s around $1.3 million. A few teams have been rumored to be interested in Turiaf, but little has been little talk about Vujacic.
General Manager Mitch Kupchak reportedly has talked to several teams about free agents (James Posey, Kurt Thomas, Brent Barry) in case he can’t reach deals with the two free agents.
The best thing Kupchak, however, can do is keep together the team won the 2008 Western Conference and let it take another shot at the NBA title. And that means, keeping Lamar Odom.
