The Orlando Magic are one of the teams that reportedly would vie for Corey Maggette’s services, should the Clippers’ swingman indeed exercise the escape clause in his contract today, as he stated as far back as last summer that he would do.
That would send Maggette to the Eastern Conference, where he began his career in 1999-2000, with the Magic.
The Lakers certainly would not mind playing against Maggette twice per year, home and away, rather than the four regular-season meetings - all at Staples Center, if Maggette remained a Clipper.
Why?
Well, over the past five seasons, encompassing 14 games, Maggette has averaged 24.7 points per game against the Lakers. He has scored 20 or more points in all but one of those games - a 15-point outing during the 2006-2007 season.
Maggette’s agent, Rob Pelinka (also Kobe Bryant’s agent), no doubt will be exploring every feasible opportunity for his client, who would leave $7 million on the table, if he opts out.
It is very likely that Maggette will sign a long-term contract with the Clippers, whose owner, Donald T. Sterling, has expressed a strong desire for Maggette to return for his ninth season.
Besides Maggette, Laker fans, who are other players in the NBA that seem to enjoy big scoring sprees against the Lakers?
