OK, Lakers fans, how about drafting J.R. Giddens, the hot-shooting guard out of New Mexico? That is, if he’s still available that late in today’s NBA draft.
Giddens, an honorable mention All-American, is listed as the sixth-best shooting guard and considered the sixth-best senior in the draft. The Lakers could use someone to take Derek Fisher’s place (Fish can’t play forever, can he?)
Of course, Ron Artest would be best, given his experience and all. But he said Wednesday that he is not interested in taking a pay cut in favor of a championship.
Probasketballnews.com is suggesting that the Lakers likely will sign a veteran who can come off the bench without trading one of their key parts. The Lakers reportedly are looking at Eduardo Najera of Denver, New Orleans’ Bonzi Wells and James Posey, who just helped the Celtics win the NBA title.
Wouldn’t that be ironic?
