Don’t expect much from the Lakers’ lone draft pick

Giorgos PrintezisThe Lakers only pick in this week’s draft comes at No. 58, which most of the time means scraping the bottom of the draft pool.

In the past 10 years, the 58th or in some years, the last pick at 57th, haven’t amounted to much. Take for instance last season’s No. 58, Giorgos Printezis of Greece, drafted by Toronto. He never so much as got a moment in the NBA and he’s no where to be found in the D-League, either.

In fact, only one of those No. 58s (or No. 57s) were listed on an NBA roster this season, that being Maceo Baston of Toronto. The No. 58 pick by Chicago in 1998, he has played parts of just three NBA seasons, spending much of the past decade in Europe after being drafted out of Michigan.

Here’s a list of the past 10 No. 58s (or No. 57s) and the teams that drafted them:

2007 Giorgos Printezis, Toronto
2006 J.R. Pinnock, Lakers (from Dallas)
2005 Uros Slokar, Toronto
2004 Blake Stepp, Minnesota
2003 Andreas Glyniadakis, Detroit
2002 Corsley Edwards, Sacramento
2001 Bryan Bracey, San Antonio
2000 Pete Mickeal, Dallas
1999 Eddie Lucas, Utah
1998 Maceo Baston, Chicago
