Fun and focus all in one for Lakers

June 6th, 2008, 11:19 am · Post a Comment · posted by ART THOMPSON III, OCREGISTER.COM

During the waning minutes of a NBA team’s practice, players typically engage in activities like who can be the first one to make a half-court shot, making jump shots with their off-shooting hand or seeing how many jump shots in a row a group can make.

Lakers reserve forward Ronny Turiaf and his co-horts have a game in which four or five players line up, across the free-throw line, then shoot the ball in rapid succession. The aim is for each of the players to make the shot - all net - without it bouncing on the rim or banking off the backboard.

“Usually, it’s me, Jordan (Farmar), Luke (Walton) and Vlade (Radmanovic) that play our free-throw game,” Turiaf said.

Walton and Radmanovic, however, were assigned to specific media stations Friday and were unable to participate.

“So, we changed it up a bit today,” Turiaf said. “We recruited Trevor (Ariza), Ira (Newble) and Coby (Karl). It’s a great game because it’s fun but it also forces you to focus on making your free throws.”
