First quarter: Lakers 21, Spurs 16

The Lakers followed up a stirring trumpeted rendition of the national anthem by Flea with a decidedly different tune from Kobe Bryant.

Bryant had eight points on 4-for-6 shooting and backcourt mate Derek Fisher added seven as the Lakers took a 21-16 lead after the first period.

Fisher had seven of his team’s first 15 points. Bryant, who took two first-half shots in Game 1, equaled that when he banked in a jumper for a 13-6 lead with 7:50 remaining.

He got a dunk off a Ronny Turiaf pass and sank a jumper for the Lakers’ last two baskets.

Tim Duncan led San Antonio with four points. The Spurs shot 7-for-21 from the field.

Lakers center Pau Gasol picked up his second foul with 3:44 to go and went to the bench.
