Luke Walton asked the question in jest during Kobe Bryant’s NBA MVP ceremony, wondering if Bryant would be bestowing gifts on all his teammates for their help, and Bryant wound up joking back but saying: “You know I will.”
Bryant broke the gifts out at the end of the team’s dinner Monday night to watch the Spurs beat the Hornets to join the Lakers in the Western Conference finals. Each teammate received a personally engraved Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Chronograph watch from Switzerland. They retail for $9,000 apiece.
Time for me to get cracking on the Spurs-Lakers series preview stuff, but fellow Register columnist Mark Whicker envisions the Lakers crashing in San Antonio in Game 6. I’ll have to give my pick some more thought, but had it been New Orleans (I didn’t think it would be), I would’ve gone with the Lakers in five.
