Nuggets find “I BELIEVE” signs

April 27th, 2008, 9:21 pm · Post a Comment · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

DENVER — The Lakers showed up for their workout at the Nuggets’ practice court to find “I BELIEVE” signs had been posted throughout the Nuggets’ weight room. They weren’t anything special in appearance — basically someone with Microsoft Word and a printer — but they made a point that the Lakers noticed.

Phil Jackson estimated there were 150 signs in the weight room and understood that it was up to the Lakers to put “doubt” back into Denver’s mind right away Monday night. Derek Fisher said the Lakers will just try to play “well enough at the beginning” to keep it close against an expected Denver surge.

Fisher had some interesting comments about Carmelo Anthony’s “we quit” comments.

“It’s frustration and anger in a sense and disappointment,” Fisher said. “It’s not a totally irrational emotional. It’s a way for him to express what he’s truly feeling. I think that’s important sometimes.”

Fisher brought up his two frustrating seasons trying to infuse Golden State with a winning mentality and described that team as one “that just didn’t have a chance to be successful. There were nights when we were like, ‘We quit.’ “
