Lakers lead, 97-78 after three quarters

That slip in the second quarter? Just a minor difficulty.
The Lakers righted whatever offensive trouble they had in the first half and led, 97-78, after three quarters.

Maybe it was an “inspired” speech by Phil Jackson. Perhaps another talking to by assistant Brian Shaw about how the guards weren’t keeping the Nuggets from penetrating inside during the first half.

Whatever transpired in the locker room at halftime, turned around the Lakers and they came out fired up. Even Kobe Bryant got more involved in the offense, scoring 10 points in the quarter. But the star was Pau Gasol, who had 36 points after three quarters, while Bryant had 14. The star for the Nuggets continued to be Linas Kleiza, who had 19 points. Allen Iverson also had 19.

BTW:
After Bryant landed one of his near-impossible shots over Carmelo Anthony midway through the third quarter, chants of “MVP!” MVP!” rang out. Sure beat the chants of “DUI! DUI!” Anthony heard when he stepped to the line.
