EL SEGUNDO - Most of the starters got the day off Saturday, but Derek Fisher was around to discuss the state of Lakerland with reporters.

The co-captain offered a veteran perspective on the team’s reaction to the news that Andrew Bynum was set back in his recovery from a serious knee injury.

“I don’t think our disappointment was related to, ‘Oh, man, he could have helped us,’ ” Fisher said. “I think that’s selfish in a sense to think about the team as opposed to the individual when a guy is battling from that kind of injury.

Andrew is a smart young man and when you think about what he could possibly do for another decade or another 12-14 years, it’s almost ridiculous to risk a six or seven week period to jeopardize 10 or 12 years. Whatever he needs to do so that he can be who he was before the injury, with no limitation, no pain, no discomfort - that’s the only reason he would need to come back and play right now. Without that it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.”
