LOS ANGELES — Kobe Bryant is coping with his finger pain and Chris Mihm’s sad struggle with his foot is finally on the upswing. But Lakers fans probably could use one really glowing health report, so here goes:
I checked in with Pau Gasol before the game to see how his sore back was doing. You might recall that the back was such a problem that Gasol couldn’t play for Memphis in several games before the Jan. 31 trade to the Lakers. And there was fear the injury would linger long term.
Instead, Gasol gave a thumbs-up Sunday and credited Lakers athletic performance coordinator Alex McKechnie — whose innovative “Core X System” has gone mainstream recently, if you are interested — with working the magic.
