EL SEGUNDO - Remember when Derek Fisher was on fire? He still is, statistically speaking, but that’s not evident lately.

Fisher is in a 5-for-26 shooting slump (and 1-for-12 from 3-point range) the past three games. He went 3-for-11 against Portland on Friday, including 0-for-6 on 3-pointers. Three of those misses came in the final minute of a tight game.

Coach Phil Jackson attributes it mostly to fatigue. The Lakers will have played eight games in 13 days after Sunday’s game against Dallas.

“We’ve been playing a lot of games in short order since the All-Star break,” Jackson said. “The other thing is shooting comes and goes. Three-point shooting is the first that goes.”

Fisher is still enjoying a career-best season. He is shooting 44.2 percent, well above the 39.7 percent he averaged for his career entering this season.

  1. BT Says:

Lucky for Fish, despite our tough opponents we only have 2 back-to-backs this month and the other games are evenly spaced out.

The indefatigable Kobe, who had been averaging some 36MPG in November and December is playing 39+MPG the last two months, including 40+MPG in 10 of the last 15 games. With our challenging schedule this month, it is unlikely that he would get much rest though.
