Gasol feeling ready

February 4th, 2008, 12:53 pm · 1 Comment · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

NEW YORK — Pau Gasol’s No. 16 Lakers jersey was ready for him in Washington on Sunday, but now he’s ready to slip it over that mop of hair Tuesday night in New Jersey.

Gasol went through a triangle tutorial of a practice — Phil Jackson said he was out there doing a lot of physical walk-through, even though he was using his cane by the time I saw him — and was working at the center position. Jackson said he would start Gasol, assuming there are no setbacks with Gasol’s sore back.

“I’m still trying to get a feel with the triangle offense and all the options and reads, because there’s a lot of reading, which is not as good for me (right now),” Gasol said. “I’m still trying to get a feel and just process it all.

“I don’t think it’s hard to learn; you’ve just got to get used to it and get in the flow, that rhythm that all of my teammates are in from being in it and playing in it for obviously longer than I have.

About his balky back, Gasol said it is “under control.”

“It’s getting there. Good enough to perform well,” he said.

    Kevin,
This is the happiest time for me being a Lakers fan, since the signing of Shaq. The way it came down and all of a sudden, seems surreal. An exciting time again, giddy about the whole deal. I have read and enjoyed your column since the first time you joined the Register. Yet, this is the first time I actually joined your blog. Very, very excited!!!!!!!
