20 reasons the Lakers won’t win

January 25th, 2008, 2:00 pm · 1 Comment · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

DALLAS — So the Lakers’ last chance at a victory in this tough stretch of facing Phoenix, San Antonio and Dallas in a four-game span is coming up. Before we get off this notion of where the Lakers stand — now and in the future — with the Western Conference’s proven powers, I thought some of you might be interested or amused to read a list of 20 reasons the Lakers won’t win the title this season; it was submitted by a Suns fan named Jordan Spears who e-mailed in response to my column a couple of weeks back listing 20 reasons the Suns won’t win the West. Some of his entries are takeoffs on my entries, FYI.

1. They can’t play the Sonics everyday

2. The Lakers are one of the worst when it comes to Turning the ball over ( proof http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/stats/byteam… )

3. They have one of the luckiest coaches ever. Who without big name players would be titleless

4. Kobe, Bynum, then who?

5. We all know someones got milk ad proves that they won’t win a title. (sarcasm)

6. In 03-04 when the Lakers were 56-26, 21 of their losses came against the West.

7.Owner Robert Sarver might have a strange approach, but we have won the Pacific the last 3 years so maybe Buss should take a page out of his book.

8. Boris Diaw is averaging more PPG then 8 players on the Lakers, More assists then 13 of the Lakers, and more rebounds then 11 of the Lakers.

9. Bynums health is a growing concern, out for how long, 8 weeks, that is 2 months……..

10. Kobe has an attitude where he wants to quit when hes losing and stay when hes winning…. maybe he should try seeing something through before giving up. Plus calling out Bynum sometime ago…..

11. If the pick and roll is a problem in the playoffs, then the Triangle Offense is a bigger problem….. see the last two first rounds for the Lakers.

12. Brian Skinner more Rebound then 11 Lakers, more blocks then 14 of the 15 active Lakers.

13. Jerry Colangelo wasn’t pushed out or else he wouldn’t have been honored by Sarver himself by being put in the ring of honor.

14. The Lakers are good, but the Suns in the end are better. Regular Season wins mean nothing when you lose in the playoffs. What was the Lakers record around this time last year, equivalent, how did that end up?

15. Nash might not be able to defend, but again something has gotten him more MVP awards then your whole tema combined.

16. Speaking of appreciation. (See your article and this number of it) Kobe doesn’t know the definition of the word.

17. Amare is averaging more shots attempts and makes then Leandro Barbosa.

18. An appendectomy obviously affects your ankle. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/a…

19. The Suns and Wolves weren’t even in serious talks about getting Garnett, it was a big rumor, kind of like Kobe to the Bulls.

20. Suns had some chemistry problems last year and still made it to the Second round. Things will still work out.

One Response to “20 reasons the Lakers won’t win”

  1. Leo MaLau Says:

What Suns fans don’t realize is that their team’s window to win a NBA championship has closed. I don’t hate the Suns or anything, and as long time Lakers fans there is only one team that we truly hate through the years.

It was always an iffy proposition for a great offense/poor defense team to win the NBA championship. The Suns’ chance was to beat the Spurs and to play against Cleveland in last year’s finals.

One would certainly expect the Spurs and the Mavericks to be battling for that finals berth this year. The Hornets have been impressive also and certainly have the pre-requisite pieces in place to challenge the other elite teams. The Lakers can be in the mix too if they win the next two home games and have a 5-4 or 6-3 record in the upcoming 9 games road trip.

And next year the young Portland team will gain Greg Oden back.

On the East side our eternal enemy the Celtics have a champion caliber team. The Pistons have re-loaded with several good young players and are ready to contend again.

    So sorry for the Suns.
