LOS ANGELES — Andrew Bynum was helped off the court with 8:52 left in the third quarter, unable to put any weight on his left leg because of a sprained knee. He stepped on teammate Lamar Odom’s foot for an awkward landing while trying to reach back for a defensive rebound over his head.
X-rays showed no fracture. Bynum is scheduled for an MRI exam Monday, when the Lakers play in Seattle.
In a team-wide show of unity, every Lakers player went down to the opposite end of the court, forming a circle around Bynum as he lay on the court under the basket. Kwame Brown and Ronny Turiaf helped Bynum to the locker room before Brown hustled back to replace Bynum.
The Lakers led, 66-55, at the time. Bynum had 10 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes.

I hope the injury he suffered will just be a minor one. I hope too that Phil Jax could find ways to fill that gap created by that injury. This a long league and sometimes, something like that happen and it is up to the Lakers to adjust and hold the fort until Bynum returns and be productive again. I hope Kwame and Turiaf will do their best and carry the torch that Drew has lighted.
Kevin just a question I know only you will have the answer to, with the injuries t Mihm, and possibly Andrew, and the gamble with Kwame, is there a chance we bring in Chris Webber? He says hes coming back in two weeks???any chance?
It was about at this point in the schedule last year that injuries decimated the Lakers. How important is Andrew Bynum to the Lakers?
the Lakers were up by about 10 when he went down. The lead was quickly erased after he left the game. Let’s see how they do in Seattle without Andrew. I think they will have a hard time beating them. Kwame just doesn’t have the stamina to be effective at both ends for an extended period of time. Ronnie has his moments, but draws fouls like a magnet. Please Lord, let Andrews injury be minor.
I am sure that what happen last year will not happen this year, but the chances of beating bigtime teams like Spurs, Phoenix, Celtics and Dallas will somehow be lesser now than when Drew is healthy. I hope Kobe and Fish could provide the leadership that the Lakers team needed as this point in time. Eight weeks is just too long, just to wait Bynum to be healthy, Lamar and Kwame must fill the void created by the injury. This is a great challenge for Phil Jax to prove that he is the no. 1 coach in the NBA.
