MEMPHIS, TENN. – Kobe Bryant is who he is, Andrew Bynum is emerging, and Lamar Odom still has that All-Star potential. So how is it that the marquee matchup Wednesday night in New Orleans will be Chris Paul against Derek Fisher … and it’s definitely not all Paul?
Fisher scored a career high for the second consecutive game in the Lakers’ victory over the Grizzlies on Tuesday night. He had 26 points after scoring 22 points Sunday night in the Lakers’ rout of Indiana. Fisher shot 10 of 11 from the field against Memphis and also had four assists.
Kobe Bryant had 25 points on 8-of-22 shooting. The Lakers had six players in double figures and had little trouble in their 13th victory in 16 outings.
DID YOU SEE THAT?
Bynum screamed in frustration after missing a point-blank shot from the lane against single coverage in the first quarter – and responded at the other end by jumping a passing lane and deflecting Rudy Gay’s pass for Pau Gasol, resulting in a Memphis turnover.
QUOTABLE
Amused by how many layups Odom was missing early on, teammate Ronny Turiaf approached TV announcer Joel Meyers to ask with a smile: “How many offensive rebounds does Lamar have?”
LAUGHS WITH LUKE
When Bryant sprung sore-ankled Luke Walton for a breakaway score that gave the Lakers a 76-53 lead with 6:28 left in the third quarter, he laid the ball over the front rim instead of trying a dunk … and had to look over at the Lakers’ bench and laugh at himself.
