EL SEGUNDO - Tex Winter has been seen behind the bench at recent games and he made a rare appearance at practice Saturday.

Listed as the team’s basketball consultant, Winter is considered an innovator of the triangle offense. He served under Coach Phil Jackson during Chicago’s six championship seasons and has been with the Lakers for eight seasons, including their three most recent titles.

Winter typically does not attend games but remains heavily involved in instruction, Jackson said.

Winter, 85, was slowed by a September bout with shingles. He was seen holding an ice pack on his right arm before he disappeared into the locker room.

But Jackson said Winter is still spry.

“He came out the other day and demonstrated a slide for the players,” Jackson said.
