President of New York: Isiah or Phil?

NEW YORK — Phil Jackson had a pretty spot-on summary of the state of affairs with the Knicks today when he said this after practice about Isiah Thomas: “He’s kind of like in the same position (President) Bush is in. No matter what he does that’s good, no one is going to give him a break anyway. And everything the team does that doesn’t look good, he’s going to get blamed for it. In that situation, it is real tough to have success. You have to have people who want you to succeed in this business.”Jackson must definitely be deviating from his former days as a solid Democrat to say such a thing of even tepid appreciation for Bush (although Phil’s supporting Barack Obama this time).
But Jackson is deviating from his former days as a Knick, too. He has yet to come running when they come calling for help — even offering insane money to take over as coach — so the pull to “come home” apparently isn’t there anymore.
“As far as Knick blood, I haven’t been part of this organization since ’78,” Jackson said. “That’s getting close to 30 years.”
