CLEVELAND — I’ve plucked more than a few white hairs in recent years — yeah, it’s a futile endeavor, but it seems so incongruent to have them in there as white on black — so I definitely noticed the two distinctly white hairs having sprouted on the very top front area of Kobe Bryant’s head.

I asked Bryant today if he thought about plucking them. He laughed and said they were “a sign of wisdom” and he wanted to keep them.

Speaking of gray matters, Phil Jackson was joking about us reporters having today to enjoy the chilly gray of Cleveland … and I had to point out that it looks a lot like Chicago. Jackson would have none of it, saying Chicago is clearly unlike all these other Midwest cities.

I cited the entire month of December that I recall from my college days in Chicago without seeing the sun appear a single time. Jackson would not waver, insisting you could not compare Chicago in any way with these other relatively nondescript cities.

Hey, I love Chicago, too, and I understand the warm feeling people have — and should have — for any place that was once really felt like home.
