No complaints about Bynum’s work

Kobe Bryant has given rave reviews of Andrew Bynum’s workout work ethic this season after Bynum did a ton of offseason training for the first time in his career, enlisting the help of personal trainer Sean Zarzana. So it did seem incongruent that Phil Jackson criticized Bynum as having stepped back since the season started.

Jackson didn’t mean that to come across and sought to clarify before the Warriors-Lakers game. Jackson just meant that it’s only natural for players to lose some high-end conditioning once they begin focusing on basketball work.

“Having spent four or five hours a day in conditioning work, now that basketball season has started, he’d de-condition,” said Jackson, who added it shouldn’t be “really a big issue.”

Jackson did mention Bynum made a rare mistake this season when he recently didn’t show up on time to work with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but the coach did not seem bothered by it.
