Father Fisher

BOSTON — Derek Fisher’s daughter, Tatum, has one more appointment set with her doctor in New York before they’ll shift her care fully to Los Angeles — which was the point of Fisher’s release from the Utah Jazz and eventual signing with the Lakers. Tatum’s local care with specialists at Children’s Hospital has been set up, but Fisher said if any complications arise in the future, her primary doctor in New York at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center still wants to supervise her care.

Asked about his family and this current holiday season, Fisher said: “Not just because it’s Thanksgiving, but just overall, we’re extremely thankful for having the opportunity to be together as a family every day. Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where family is really the focus and being thankful for everything you have. And the experiences that we had as a family the past seven months or so have brought that into perspective even more, that every day truly is a gift.”

Tatum, 15 months old, is recovering from a rare cancerous tumor in her left eye.
