Spurs 107, Lakers 92

November 13th, 2007, 8:52 pm · 1 Comment · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

SAN ANTONIO – The defending NBA champions played at their level – and the Lakers couldn’t reach it.

The Lakers got routed by the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night from the late second quarter on, resulting in a 107-92 loss. Unlike last season, when the Lakers won twice and lost a third matchup in overtime to the Spurs, this one wasn’t competitive because of the Lakers’ 19 turnovers and San Antonio’s 13-of-27 shooting from 3-point range.

San Antonio shook off a miserable shooting start (3 of 16 from the field) and settled in behind Tony Parker (26 points, nine assists), Manu Ginobili (17 points) and Bruce Bowen (23 points). Kobe Bryant had 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

NOTES

Lamar Odom injured his right pinky finger – tearing a tendon — early in the game and played the second quarter on with the end of the finger taped. … Chris Mihm started at center, but he missed all three of his shots in six minutes; Kwame Brown started the second half. … Sasha Vujacic – not Brian Cook – was the final inactive player with Javaris Crittenton and Coby Karl.

WHAT WAS HE THINKING?

Odom is trying to recondition himself to playing in the post more, and he made plenty of mistakes in the first half along those lines – including a three-second violation in the second quarter.

KEY PLAY

As Phil Jackson well knows, it’s key to end quarters well for both score and momentum purposes. That’s why Gregg Popovich orchestrated from his sideline perch one final San Antonio play in the first half that resulted in a Bowen three-pointer and a 54-38 Spurs lead.

MVP

NBA Finals MVP Parker, who set Bowen up for that three-pointer, had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, six assists and no turnovers in the first half.

One Response to “Spurs 107, Lakers 92”

Whatever Lakers were trying to do, it was not working. None of the post options workedl; Kobe was not quite aggressive on the offensive end; everyone was TO-prone … or perhaps the Spurs are just too good. Had the game been a tad bit closer, I would have been knowing we were in it, given we probably lose @San Antonio 9/10 times.
