Lakers 107, Timberwolves 93

LOS ANGELES – Maybe the Minnesota Timberwolves should’ve taken the Lakers’ offer for Kevin Garnett.
The Lakers rolled to a 107-93 victory Friday night at Staples Center with the Lakers’ offseason trade bait of Lamar Odom (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Andrew Bynum (10 points, 10 rebounds) having active nights. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Minnesota power forward Al Jefferson, the centerpiece in Kevin McHale’s trade with Boston that shipped Garnett out, was hot at times with 24 points and 15 rebounds but didn’t get much help. In the third quarter, when the Lakers pulled away, Jefferson hit 3 of 6 shots, but his teammates shot 4 of 17 from the field.
NOTES
Ronny Turiaf, not Luke Walton, stayed in the starting lineup upon Odom’s return because Phil Jackson said he wants more size this season. … Jackson offered his first regular-season verbal jab at injury-prone Kwame Brown, who has been sitting with a sore right heel and missed his second consecutive game: “A guy like Kwame needs practices. He needs to do a lot of things that are through the offense so he understands what’s going on, the concepts we’re working with and the advances we’re making as we going along. We don’t want to see him miss time.”
DID YOU SEE THAT?
Odom got an offensive rebound and plowed his left shoulder into Minnesota center Theo Ratliff 2:13 into the game, drawing a foul and testing his surgically repaired labrum.
KEY PLAY
Chris Mihm had his second consecutive impressive third quarter and got it going with a sweet flip shot over Ratliff for the Lakers’ first second-half points.
WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
When Jordan Farmar set up Andrew Bynum for a dunk and an 82-69 lead late in the third quarter, Turiaf unveiled some sort of robotic, punching dance on the bench.

Kwame’s injuries are getting too frequent and annoying. We can’t afford to have him play another 41 games last season. If this persists, Lakers should trade his expiring contract for someone of similar attributes ala Anderson Varejao or PJ Brown, if a reasonable sign-and-trade can be arranged

I say wiggle a Kwame plus a Vlad Rod vor Artest….somewhere in that ball park, giving us a defensive prescense, we have decent post guys in Mihm and Bynum….if they stay healthy, but we need someone other than Kobe that can flat shut someone down…..Artest is that guy, or we need to trade Kwame for Marcus Camby….
